[ grunt ] ... eh?
What do I need to know about the future tense?
Well, ... the future is generally uncertain.
I know the mentality around this country is to rely on plans and "the future" and retirement and etc.
Yet each day brings its own can of worms.
So, ... this "outlook" (frequently called "fatalism") is sort of incorporated into the Spanish language, as is reflected in its use of the future tense.
You can think something's gonna happen.
That don't 'xactly mean it's gonna!
"The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft aglee ... "

What do you say in Spanish to get the point across that someone is going to do something?
To make a statement in the future in Spanish, you use the counterpart of "going to," which is "ir a."
That would be "to go" + "to."

Using the ending says I am likely to perform the verb, but since it's in the future, the likelihood is "up in the air."
 
The pronoun YO does not need to be stated in the future tense.
It is already clear by the ending attached to the infinitive that YO is the subject of the action.
If you do add the YO, it usually adds emphasis, saying I am likely to do this ...
